- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
For the Pho:
- 8 oz (225g) rice noodles (bánh phở)
- Fresh herbs (e.g., basil, cilantro)
- Bean sprouts
- Lime wedges
- Sliced jalapeños or Thai chilies
- Thinly sliced onions
- Hoisin sauce
- Sriracha or chili sauce
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Broth:
- In a large pot, bring the beef broth or water to a boil.
- Add the halved onion, sliced ginger, cinnamon stick, star anise, and cloves.
- Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes to infuse the flavors.
- Season with fish sauce and sugar, then adjust with salt to taste.
- Strain the broth to remove the solid spices and aromatics. Keep the broth warm.
2. Marinate and Grill the Meat:
- In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, fish sauce, honey, vegetable oil, minced garlic, and ground black pepper.
- Add the thinly sliced beef and toss to coat evenly. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat your grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Grill the beef slices for 1-2 minutes per side, or until they are cooked to your liking. Avoid overcooking to keep the meat tender.
- Remove the beef from the grill and set aside.
3. Prepare the Rice Noodles:
- Cook the rice noodles according to the package instructions, usually by soaking them in hot water until tender.
- Drain and rinse the noodles under cold water to prevent sticking.

- Pour the hot broth over the noodles and beef.
